One more day...

Jen just finished her physical therapy "hobble around the floor" lap.  The double transfusion yesterday has really helped her energy level, and she was able to stomach a half dose of percocet.

We're making the arrangements to come home tomorrow.  That means a rental of a wheelchair, ramp, self-elevating chair, toilet lift, and a bunch of grabbers and things.  Much of it will be delivered today, and I'll pick up the rest from one of the many local shops.

Some stuff I didn't know - after a hip replacement, you should never cross your legs (other than at the ankles) again.  That apparently applies forever.  Biking is also an issue, because your not supposed to swing your leg over the bar for a long time.

The room is still pretty noisy, so sleeping over is a challenge.  I've been playing on my laptop, so I've been occupied.  She's been sleeping a lot, so there hasn't been as much Kindle as I had anticipated.

Half way there...

It looks like Jen will go home on Friday.  There was some talk of leaving to go to a rehab facility on Friday as a halfway, but the docs said that she'd have to go to a full nursing home.  Since that prospect is unappealing, she'll come home instead.

She's less nauseated, and slept very well.  She looks and feels much better than yesterday. The only downer for today is that she's going to have a transfusion to replace some of the blood that's sloshing around.  She'll do her initial "hobble around the floor" physical therapy in a few minutes.

I slept on the padded bench.  I've been trying to get my Atari ST emulator to work on the laptop. No success yet.

Moving on up!

Jen had a decent night.  The hip is pretty good.  The pain medications are making her nauseated, so there hasn't been much physical therapy today.  Even with the post-operation pain, she's said that she's happy to be rid of the arthritic hip pains.

She was transferred to Room 1024 (on the 10th floor) from the 4th floor.  We're both glad she's out of the ICU.  I was supposed to sleep in her room last night.  However, it was so loud in the ICU (beeps and alarms, etc.) that Jen sent me home at 11pm so I could get some sleep before my big morning hearing today.

Jen's mom and Jake got to stop in and visit this afternoon.  I'll sleep over tonight, and the family will visit  tomorrow morning while I go home and walk the dogs, etc.

So far we have no idea on how long the hospital stay will be.

Out of surgery, will be asleep for a good while..

She's in the recovery room.  The doctor said everything went fine. They haven't invited me back yet.  I presume she'll be asleep for a while.  Since she's got sleep apnea and will be wearing her CPAP mask, she'll probably go to the ICU after recovery and before going to her private room.

So far so good.

Jen went into the ER at 8:15am for a 9am start. She should be done by 10:30 to 11:00.

So far, so good.  Good wifi, fresh decaf coffee in the waiting room, and people generally wash their hands in pre-op.  I saw a doctor I sued in a previous case (contract claim, not malpractice), but I ducked into a corner and missed him.

Back in the hospital; new story, same place...

I'll be updating the progress of Jen's July 2, 2012 hip replacement surgery from this website.  She's scheduled for surgery Monday morning to replace her right hip.  She needs the left hip too, but one at a time...

We expect three to five days in Aventura Hospital, followed by a week in a rehab facility.  Jen's Mom will be staying in our house with Jake and the dogs, and I'll be sleeping at the hospital.  Stay tuned...
